The “concept scooter”, as Peugeot calls it, has a 30kW 0.3-litre petrol engine driving the rear wheel and a 3kW electric motor in each of the two front wheels.
The start/stop petrol engine, regenerative breaking and lithium-ion battery pack combine to produce an average fuel figure of 1.99-litres/100km and CO2 emission of just 48g/km.
In electric-only mode it can run for up to 10 kilometres at low speeds, while flat-out performance mode 0-100km/h comes in 10 seconds and the top speed is 150km/h.
Peugeot is expected to use similar hybrid technology when it releases its 3008 crossover in 2011.The 3008 will be powered by a 121kW 2.0-litre diesel at the front and a 27kW electric motor at the rear.
